Okonomiyaki - Japanese Pancakes Recipe
Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pancakes) are a quick and yummy dish. However, they can be a little bit tricky if you don't know how to make them properly. Personally, I like putting A LOT of cabbage in them which makes them not so heavy and healthier to eat.
Okonomiyaki Recipe - serves 6
*3 eggs
*500g thinly sliced cabbage
*80g plain flour
*100ml water
*SAORI Okonomiyaki Sauce
*salt and pepper to taste
optional
*meat ,prawns etc
*dried bonito (look for it in a Japanese or Korean grocery shop)
*mayonaise
1: thinly slice the cabbage (important: slice vertically to cabbage leaf ridges) - this makes the Okonokomiyaki nice and crispy.
2: combine cabbage, eggs, flour and water in a bowl. Mix well.
3: fry the mixture in a lightly oiled frying pan for 3-5 mins (if you are adding meat or prawns it is essential to cook them first and then put the mixture on top of them)
4: turn it over and cook the other side for 3-5 mins
5: serve with Okonomiyaki Sauce, (mayonaise and bonito)
6: enjoy your homemade Japanese meal
* the first time you make these they might turn out quite messy. But...DON'T WORRY...they will still taste the same...and inspire you to make better ones the next time.
